Fern Mechlowitz is an experienced civil litigator and criminal defense attorney.

Ms. Mechlowitz represents clients in a wide array of criminal and regulatory matters.  She has represented clients charged with various federal crimes, including white collar crimes, narcotics offenses, firearms offenses, and RICO conspiracies in federal court.  She has defended clients in criminal trials in both the Southern District of New York and the District of New Jersey, and assisted with criminal appeals.  Ms. Mechlowitz has also prepared numerous successful motions for clients seeking compassionate release and early termination of supervised release.

On the civil side, Ms. Mechlowitz has represented clients in complex civil litigation in both state and federal court, and in arbitrations.  She represents clients both on the defense side and the plaintiff’s side, and has represented clients at trial.  She regularly handles business disputes involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, unfair competition, tortious interference with contract, and unjust enrichment.

Before joining Gelber + Santillo PLLC, Ms. Mechlowitz worked at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP for eight years and Arnold & Porter for two years, where she represented numerous global corporations and financial institutions in both civil and criminal matters.

Ms. Mechlowitz served as a law clerk for the Honorable James H. Michael in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia.  She received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and her B.A. from Stanford University, where she graduated with honors and distinction.

Ms. Mechlowitz is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey.
